I'm pretty sure I can join you for the parade. But I do need to double check my schedule.

Theresa, Zoo Boo is just doing it to make awareness of their event in October. They are doing it in the St. Paul Parade since they are in St. Paul

From what I gathered from Steve's opening comments, ZooBoo has a spot in the parade and want us in there, they're probably advertising it. I'm personally up for it, but I haven't done this parade yet, so that's the noob in me |

This year it looks like the ZooBoo is interested in having us joint them in their unit. The main thing is that this parade is LONG. And last year it was HOT. But I think we should go for it, despite my "near death" experience last year.

Absolutely we should go for it. If it's hot, we'll take all necessary precautions. We should be able to use the float.

I think more people got to see me changing out of my costume than saw me in my costume. I don't know what you're all thinking about it being a long
parade. I thought it was the shortest parade ever.

I thought I'd better chime in on this thread.
Last year, you were all covered by the Science Museum and being on the Zoo Boo planning committee, I got them to sponsor a group in the parade as well. There were about 7 of us heroes and 3 animals...we wanted to have a mix of characters, but only a couple of people wanted to wear furry animal costumes in that heat!... ...which brings up a point. The Grand Old Days regulations states that a unit can be a vehicle, or a float, or 10 people marching... "...Participation in the Parade is measured in units. A unit is defined as one (1) vehicle, one (1) float with up to 10 walkers, or one (1) organization's marching contingent. No Parade unit may be taller than 15 feet. Groups or individuals marching/riding together must pay the appropriate fees.... ...All participants (floats, walkers, bands, etc.) must incorporate the parade theme - IT'S GRAND BEING GREEN - in their music, float design and/or costumes. Use your imagination: use recyclable materials to build your float, have recycled or re-used products on your float, walk or bike instead of riding, find costumes at a second hand store, emphasize your organization's environmentally friendly efforts - use your creativity! All floats or units are encouraged to have an entertaining and crowd pleasing float..." http://grandave.users18.edigita.com/grandoldday/uploads/09%20Parade%20Participation/2009%20Grand%20Old%20Day%20Parade%20Participation.htm I need to check with the Zoo Boo staff who submitted the application to see just what they paid for. There MAY be a limit of 10 people for the unit, in which case, I was shooting for 2-3 animal characters or people wearing Zoo Boo shirts, 2-3 Pirates (they went over big there last year), and then 3-4 SW characters. I also want to see IF we can get your float in the parade...AND see if we can have a few folks on the float (Vader, Fett, Troopers?) and then the 10 walkers as well. The point is is that, right now, everything is in a little bit of a state of limbo. We are having our first planning meeting on the 16th, so I will find out what specifics that I can. I'm HOPING that since you were allowed to have quite a few people marching for the Science Museum last year that they will allow that many and a few more other characters for Zoo Boo... ...but they might stress the 10 person limit! I just wanted you all to be aware of this! John P.S. The Source is sponsoring the Superhero group this year! |

The 10 person limit is a good point to get clarification on. Perhaps they want the contingent to be a minimum of 10 people, so that they don't get some
group that is just a family of four who wants to be in a parade.

My wife (who is in charge of the Pirates station) will probably try to get her brother and sister to march with her as Pirates since those 3 WERE Pirates at
Zoo Boo last year. If any of them aren't available, I'll let you guys know.
The "up to 10 person" limit seems pretty dumb to me! If you can have 15 to 20, it's just that much more impressive for the parade! Besides, if you are a float you can have up to 10 walkers...but if you are a marching contingent, then you are NOT limited to 10?!
OK...Stormtroopers are a marching contingent!

Hi all
I won't be able to do the Grande day this year due to Rachel (Anakin's Blondie) Graduation open house is from 2-6 on the 7th. You all are invited for munchies and things of course AND Maverick will be attending the party - So if a costume photo with a horse is on your list, we may be able to accomadate your wishes! HAVE FUN Reb

OK, there's been a development on the Grand Old Days front...
...Como Zoo's application was ACCEPTED!!! HOWEVER, the float is probably NOT going to be allowed since they didn't put that in their application. Since the ONLY limitation of bodies mentioned (10 was in addition to a float, that MAY mean that more of you can march!... ...but without the float, maybe more may NOT want to do the parade! (By the way, how many of you marched last year?) I'm still going to try to find out just how many people can be in a unit...since it says one (1) organization's marching contingent... "...Participation in the Parade is measured in units. A unit is defined as one (1) vehicle, one (1) float with up to 10 walkers, or one (1) organization's marching contingent... ...and then there's also the theme aspect... ...All participants (floats, walkers, bands, etc.) must incorporate the parade theme - IT'S GRAND BEING GREEN - in their music, float design and/or costumes. Use your imagination: use recyclable materials to build your float, have recycled or re-used products on your float, walk or bike instead of riding, find costumes at a second hand store, emphasize your organization's environmentally friendly efforts - use your creativity! All floats or units are encouraged to have an entertaining and crowd pleasing float..." I'm not exactly sure what you guys might do to go along with the theme, but at least there's time to discuss it! John

Hmm...the only thing I can think of is to hand out canvas tote bags with our logo...it's green cause they can use that at a grocery store rather than a
paper or plastic bag.
But, if the float is allowed...I guess it could be decorated green...somehow? I did not march last time and I would be up for it this year. |
