Hi all,

We had planned our annual camping trip for the weekend of September 12-14, at Crowhassan Park, just southwest of Rogers off I-94. We had talked about camping two nights, and then, since we are still close to the metro, possibly having a potluck picnic on Sat. for those who did not wish to camp.

Before I finalize the reservations, I wanted to get soome idea of who is seriously interested, and if you wish to come for camping or picnic only. Please post here is you think you will attend. Thanks!

I am totally DOWN for this!

My only question would be the park's view on pet's ... I'd like to bring my dog! Katsu luvs camping!
I'm in for both camping & picnic!

I'll double check, but I think dogs are no problem. Crowhassan is a pretty queit park, used mostly by horseback and canoe campers.

I just looked it up ... and Katsu is 'cool' :

Dog trails (9.4 miles) -Dogs are allowed on designated horse trails and along park service roads. Dog-walkers are required to keep their dogs on leashes no longer than 6 feet and must clean up after the pets. Dogs must not be allowed to interfere with other trail users. Violators will be fined.
Dog Off-leash Area - Over 40 acres of space allows dogs to run off-leash. An annual or daily pass is required. Daily permits are available at the park, or you may purchase an annual permit.

So both Katsu & I are definitely IN ... it will be a good warm up for our annual North Shore trek later in september!

I may be interested. I'm not going to be doing ren. fest as often this year, so some of my weekends in Aug-Sept are more open than other years.

What kind of sites are they? What kind of ammenities do they have?

I mean I *have* done the "haul everything in a mile, roll the sod out of the way to make yourself a firepit, dig a hole to pee in" camping...but It's not the kind I like to do. I prefer camping where my inner over-packer can run wild because I'm right there at my car, and there's already somewhere set up to pee.

I guess I need some more information about the location before I will committ.

If it's the same group camp, it's a very cool layout. There are pit bathrooms in permanent structures (not plastic outhouses) and the campsite plot we had last year was divided into two - a cooking/fire area and a tent setup area. Very cool.

I'm a tentative right now, sorry I can't make a stronger commitment. I'm going up north to Grand Rapids/Deer River sometime in September, but not sure exactly when. I loved the camping the last two years, and really hope to not miss out on it this year

, though I'll probably be flying solo if I do.

I've made the reservation for River Site #1 at Crow Hassan. Once we get closer we can look at the reservation fees, and food costs, etc. and figure out how to best divy up.

Heather & Tom, to answer your questions, yes, it is the same site as last year. You can drive to the site. We can have up to 20 people camping there and they say we can leave one car in the site after unloading. Last year, we kinda 'forgot' to move the cars out of the site and no one ever came to ask us to move them. There are permanent latrines on site, and a well with a pump for fresh water.

I have been camping many, many years on the second weekend of Sept. and historically it is wonderful weather. This site does have the potential to be a little buggy if we don't have a good breeze, but there is plenty of shade. There are also miles of hiking trails and the site is only 50 yards or so from the canoe landing.

I will be at the Vikings game that Sunday as well. But I think the idea of having something on Saturday for a day event would be great. Plus I'm brand new to this group, so maybe more than a day is too much too soon ;-)

Um...I'm gonna have to probably bow out of camping. My ankle is still giving me a lot of problems. I have been instructed to avoid "uneven ground" which includes grass

.

I may be able to go out for a picnic, being careful and using a cane to assure I don't reinjure myself, but my physical therapist darn near forbade me to go camping. The look she gave me when I asked was kinda funny

.
