Official Map of Grand Old Days!
Note: North is to the right on the map! Grand Avenue runs East-West.
The parade starts @ 10:00am. Line-up is at 9:00 am.
Now, I don't think we'll be stepping-off until close to 11:00, BUT, even though it may mean waiting around for quite awhile,
I would recommend getting there early so you can find a place to park!
I am parking my van at the end of the route and then having Superman Greg take me back to the beginning.
We'll use Greg's van in the parade so there will be 2 vans at the end to help shuttle people back to the beginning of the route.
IF THERE IS ANYONE WHO WANTS TO PARK THEIR VEHICLE(S) AT THE END OF THE ROUTE AND HELP SHUTTLE PEOPLE BACK TO THE BEGINNING OF THE ROUTE AFTER THE END OF THE PARADE, LET ME KNOW!
WE'LL GIVE YOU A RIDE BACK TO THE BEGINNING OF THE ROUTE TO START THE PARADE!
Here are the OFFICIAL DETAILS from the parade organizers:
· The parade will be held rain or shine. · All parade units are expected to incorporate the parade theme: IT'S GRAND BEING GREEN!
· Line-up begins at 9:00am and the parade starts promptly at 10:00am
· All parade units should access Grand Avenue from Cleveland Avenue to get in line. Grand Avenue and all side streets from Dale to Fairview are closed after 7:45am. ONLY VEHICLES IN THE PARADE WILL BE ALLOWED ON GRAND.
· You are advised to carpool, as parking is not provided. Vehicles are not permitted to park along the parade route or in the staging area, regardless of weather.
· One person from your unit must report to the Saint Paul Jaycees Parade Coordinator at the corner of Prior and Grand before going to your lineup location (access Grand from Cleveland - Prior is 1 block east of Cleveland). The Jaycees will confirm your line-up number and direct you to your line-up location. If you have additional questions, please ask the parade staff members - they will be wearing orange vests over their Grand Old Day t-shirts.
· During line-up, all units should stay as close to the curb as possible in order for other units to pass by. A parade volunteer will direct the starting units as the parade begins. Please follow the unit in front of you and all instructions from volunteers and police officers.
· The parade starts at Fairview and goes to Dale (approximately 2.5 miles - Dress appropriately for
the walk and bring water). If you miss your line-up position, you will be placed at the end of the parade.
· A panel of judges will be looking for the best parade unit to be awarded the Grand Old Day Parade Best in Show trophy. Judging criteria will include appearance (style and presentation), originality, use of theme, participation and audience response. Parade entrants who have not followed the Grand Old Day Parade "Rules and Guidelines" will not be eligible for the Best in Show trophy. Parade participants will be notified of the judging station's location prior to the start of the parade
· During the parade, keep the gaps between units to a minimum. There will be traffic stops at the
corners of Lexington and Snelling. If the Police Reserve or Parade Staff stops you at these corners, fill the gap ahead as soon as you are allowed through the intersection. Performance groups are only allowed to stop once in a block and must limit stop to 30 seconds. If there are large gaps in the parade, performance groups will not be able to stop to perform until the gaps are filled.
· Parade dispersal is on the Grand Hill.
