Matthew Woodring Stover and Karen Traviss are my two favorite EU authors. Timmy Zahn is my least favorite

Jenny, be nice. As much as I like Stover, I don't think he's nearly as good as Zahn or Traviss. Traviss has the amazing ability to make you believe in
her characters and her world. Zahn can create fully developed, complex, and real characters as well as interesting stories that have reshaped Star Wars EU for
the better. Traviss and Zahn have written two extremly great death scenes (Etain Tur-Mukan's funeral, and Thrawn) Only two of Zahn's characters are
dead (Thrawn, Pellaeon and Mara Jade-Skywalker) while many of his other characters are alive and well (Talon Karrde, Ghent, the Noghri, the Chiss, Ysalamiri
among others). Stover hasn't written anything quite as provocative as the other two (Traitor aside). While he isn't a bad author, he just hasn't
had any real earth-shattering moments in his work. But that's me.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I just like to express mine in a cynical, extreme sarcastic way lol. Who do you want to write the last mission's
for Luke, Leia and Han? You know who my vote is for.

I hope Stover gets that honor too! I also hope he gets more contracts to write more books period. After Shadows, I don't think he is up for anymore SW
books, well at least I haven't found anything yet.

I think Steve Perry might do a pretty good job of telling the final story of the Big 3. I thought he did quite well in Shadows of the Empire.

Seeker: I know that Stover wants to write the last journey for the "Big Three". He definitley has his name in the hat, I suggest another contest like
the Sith name for Jacen Solo contest, for the author of "The Last Journey". As it stands here and now, votes for Stover 2, Perry 1.
Darman: Shadows of the Empire was the book that started me down this 65 book EU path, although, I would rather "The Last Journey" be in the hands of Stover. |

I'll agree that Karen Traviss is a good author. I have enjoyed the books of hers that I've read...even though I think she's a little over-the-top
Mando/Boba Fett obsessed. Stover...he didn't make a big impression on me. Zahn, though, he is the best, imho. I love his characters and his complicated
plots and anything with Thrawn's ingenuity.
As for who should write the death of one of our heroes, I hope that does not get written for many years. I mean, the big 3 are only in their 60s. Star Wars folks seem to last into their 120s-150s if nothing goes wrong. |
