I have 2 words "In Quotes":
'Simon Pegg' ... who is scheduled (in talks) to play ME in the movie about ME! "Shikin Haramitsu Daikomyo" It means(Japanese): 'Every encounter is Sacred & could present the one potential key to the perfection of the great Universal Enlightment we seek'

I read an article on it in Entertainment Weekly and it gave a warning that if you are a die-hard fan you may want to stay away from this. They're basically
re-inventing Star Trek. I was originally going to stay away because of J.J. Abrams, but Simon Pegg and John Cho means I have to go...right? oh and the villian
from heroe's looks amazing as Spock

I'm a huge, die-hard Star Trek fan all the way back to the early 70s and I can't wait to see this.

Anyone interested in a "Trekie Party" and go as a group to see this when it comes out?

Interesting things from the trailer:
Captain Pike is the character doing the voice-over convincing Kirk to join Starfleet. Kirk is a Peeping Tom spying on Uhura - FREAK! This movie was originally scheduled to come out at Christmas 2008 but Paramount thought it was so good and going to be so big that they pushed it back to a Summer 2009 release. I'm up for a Trekkie party. I'm not much for midnight screenings because I don't like taking the next day off work just to see a movie 18 hours earlier then going on Friday night. But I would probably do that if a bunch of other people are going. I'll just work from home the next day - THANKS Best Buy! Since I'm bored, I will now post my reviews of the first 10 Star Trek movies using nothing but smileys. I'm also including information about where I saw the movies and when that you neither need nor want: Star Trek: The Motion Picture
Saw it the second day of release Dec, 79 at the Brookdale Plitt theater (now a Kohl's store) Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn
Left school early without permission June 4, 1982 to see it at the Cooper Theater in Minnetonka (second showing). I'd had my driver's license three weeks at this time and drove there with a friend. We didn't know why everyone coming out of the first screening looked so sad. Star Trek III: The Search For Spock
Saw it at the Terrace Theater in Robbinsdale at the 7:00PM showing opening day (June 1, 1984). My physics teacher was coming out of the screening before me. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Saw a special preview screening in Nov '86 at the Terrace theater a couple days before it was release. The USS Nokomis fan group was there. Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
Saw the first showing in June 1989 at the Brookdale UA theater. Took the day off work to do it. That's two hous of my life I'll never get back. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country Saw it opening day in the evening at the Brookdale UA theater Star Trek: Generations
Saw it Thanksgiving Day 1994 at the Willow Creek theater in Plymouth. The first Star Trek movie I did not see on opening weekend. Star Trek: First Contact ![]()
Saw it opening day at the Willow Creek Theater in November 1996. Star Trek: Insurrection ![]()
Saw it opening day December 1998 at the Coon Rapids Showplace theater (I think) Star Trek: Nemesis ![]()
Never saw it in the theater! I watched it for the first time on DVD. What happened? So there you have it, whether you want it or not! "It is too late for me, son." |

Star Trek: Nemesis Some marketing genius decided to release it in theaters a mere 3 days before Lord of the Rings. Yea.. That's some smart thinking right there. I am not saying the movie would have actually turned out to be successful but I think it might have made a few more millions had they been a bit smarter about their competition that week. It wasn't that bad of a movie but it suffered from the same problem as Insurrrection and Generations. What would have been fine two part TV episodes just were not all that cool for a full blow feature length movies. That has been the main problem with the Next Gen movies. They never made the realization they were actually doing movies and not TV anymore. Even First Contact which I loved dropped the ball by having the borg battle be so short. They had the perfect set up to have just a balls to the wall full blow Star Trek smack down on the big screen and they cut it painfully short. At least with the OS cast their movies actually felt like movies. Even 5 which totally sucked felt like a movie and not a TV episode. 5 is still worth watching though just for the moment when Kirk tells "God" to stuff it. Another problem with the Next Gen was the cast was too large so you were bound to have major characters short changed. With the OS it was always Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. Sure the others were popular but they had always been from day 1 secondary characters so when it came time for the movies there was no doubt who to focus on. Next Gen did a great job during it's TV run using all of it's characters well. Enough so that no matter which was your favorite you were bound to be happy with how much time they spent on the character throughout a season. That couldn't carry into the movies. There just wasn't enough time. They did well in First Contact with maybe just Beverly getting the short straw but in the other movies were pretty much Data and Picard shows with everyone else in the back seat. I agree they were the two most "important" characters on the show but picking two out of 7 like that to drive the movies just didn't work as well.
