Perhaps there is more opportunity for advancement because of the war. More wookies getting killed off and Chewbacca getting the chance to show how good he is again and again in battle.

Wookiees have a lifespan around 600 years, so I'd peg him being in his 30s if he was to be human. Old enough to be active, but not old enough to be XO of the wokkiee forces. Just my thoughts.

Was he relatively young? Have they ever established the actual lifespan of a Wookiee? If he was around 200 during the OT, than he was around 180 during the Battel of Kashyyyk. Seeing as how none of our greatest leaders have lived past 100, I would say 180 is plenty of time to build a resume.

Being that he was not only relativly young, but a runt, I can't see him being in charge of anything, except maybe getting Tarful's caf.

All it says in the Encyclopedia is that he was part of the high command. No rank mentioned.

The rank is never mentioned, but Yoda does regard them both as friends. I recall reading somewhere that is was implied that Chewie was more than an aide.

I never read the novelization of ROS, so I don't know if it ever mentions Chewbacca as second in command of the Kashyyk defenses. I always pictured him as more of an lowly ranked "young" aide-de-camp to Tarful (and Yoda).

Is it specifically mentioned anywhere that he holds any sort of high rank during the Clone Wars?

I've actually thought of writing a fan-fic that would bookend all of those Droids cartoons, comic books, etc. that were put out after Return of the Jedi. Why would Organa be okay with losing the droids and then how could they end up back with him. The thought was that Organa sends Artoo out to see who is open to joining in the Rebellion, Threepio is along as his cover. Who would suspect two droids of searching for and recruiting for the Rebellion. Then when there mission is done or...

Very interesting, and the only thing that has really been explored in the EU, is the Falcon's appearance in ROTS. In that case, it actually is the property of a group of senators who are sympathizing, if not involved, with Organa and Mothma. According to that novel though, I doubt it's owned by Chewie. But it is possible.

I think it would be very possible that Quigon was at least reaching out to him. Anakin might not have been too receptive but that doesn't mean Quigon wasn't wispering in his ear.

Well, for someone described as "The Chosen One", how could you NOT have that ability to manifest yourself after physical death? I agree it was probably one of his many latent talents that manifested itself when he returned to the light side.
